About Liesl
Hi. I’m Liesl (pronounced lee-zul.) I live in rural New Jersey. (Yes, there is such a thing!) The North Western/Skylands part. The land I call home (with my parents, twin brother and grandmother—as well as a few cats and a dog) has been in our family for over a century. I’m a dreamer, a lover, a loner, an ethical vegetarian omnivore, a maker of lists and a beauty seeker. I love to read and sew and knit, find and listen to new (and old) music. Lately I’ve become a bit of a budding gardener. My ultimate dream is to live a simple life as a homemaker. A small plot of land with a big garden and a little house with a big kitchen would be ideal.
—Things I Love: The color gray. All things almond. Snow. The Virgin Mary. Franny and Zooey. Autumn. Natural Fibers. Greyhounds. Goats. Finding new music. Most everything Icelandic (I hope to visit someday!)
—Things I Hate: Willful ignorance. Meanness. And peeling off a wet bathing suit. (That’s about it. Really.)
About Liesl Made: The Blog
Simply put, this blog is a place for me to share, document (and even hold myself accountable for) things in my life. I blog about various things including sewing, knitting and craft in general; music, books, photography and art; fashion, style and design; gardening and homemaking; recipes and foods.
Disclosure:
Starting in October 2012, I am a member of Amazon Associates Program. Basically what that means is that when I post a link here on my blog to a product on Amazon.com and you click it and end up making a purchase, I get a small percentage for the referral. I promise not to abuse this—I live on very slender means and put a lot of weight in what I purchase and would only recommend products I wholeheartedly believe in. Before I joined the program, I often linked to books and music so I don’t feel as if it’s changed any of my blogging habits or style. I just have the opportunity to earn a few pennies now.
I’ve decided that this isn’t really a good fit for me after all.
Sometimes you may see the phrase “c/o”. This stands for “courtesy of” and means the said shop has sent me this item with the agreement that I would blog about said item (by incorporating it into an outfit post, mentioning or reviewing it, etc) I would never accept anything I would not buy myself and I would never blog about an item I didn’t think was quality. Any reviews are honest opinions, straight from me. I also believe the handmade/indie community needs to support each other and I love to be able to help promote great goods.
Feel free to contact me for info on advertising, giveaways, reviews and other promotional opportunities here at Liesl Made. I’d love to help you promote your goods, services or brand (but as I stated above, I would only promote items I personally believe in or feel would interest or benefit my reader.) So, email me.
Overall, this blog is a way for me to communicate and share with like-minded souls all over the world. The goal is not a monetized blog. If I happen to bring in a few pennies along the way, I won’t complain. But I will never let it get to the point where it takes over or distracts from the main purpose of the blog.
About Liesl Made: The Shop
From 2006 to early 2012, I ran a little shop (also called Liesl Made) on Etsy. It was great run but I decided to give it up and focus on crafting for myself and family and friends for a while.
Be Kind.
I put a lot work into this space here (all the content and photos and words.) Please don’t take anything without asking or properly linking back here. I also do my best to link back and give credit where credit is due. If you see a mistake in my linking or inappropriate usage of any material, let me know. I will fix it or remove it.
Also please understand that a blog is just a window into a person’s life or rather I should say: the tip of the iceberg. I control what all I share here in this space. Please respect that before you judge. And think of Thumper before you comment. (And that is a decent lesson elsewhere online and in life!)
Still Curious? Want to say Hi?
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to email me or simply comment anywhere on the blog and I’ll be sure to get back to you!

Hello! I guess a year or so ago you had a great tutorial on how to make those folded star hot pads. I still read compliments about your tutorial, but can’t seem to find it now. Is there any chance you would be willing to share those instructions again?

Tell me if I’m wrong…
But, judging from the photo’s I’ve seen on your page, I would surmise that your environment is a perfect place for you to draw inspirational elements to incorporate in your designs and creations (wow… what a nerdy sentence with possible run-ons). If it is, then I am quite envious of you… there are very few people that have the opportunity to do what they want (and love) to do, and be able to do it all in an environment that’s beneficial to their work. Even if you are only 20-something, you are an inspiration to everyone regardless of age.
Anyways, I don’t seriously talk like what I typed above… I just wanted to say nice work!
