The first of the gifts I received this year was gifted a couple weeks early.
The rest were received on a snowy Christmas morning, including: a Knit Picks interchangeable circular needle set, sweets, my new favorite toothpaste (which will be much needed when considering all the former), money, and a Lifefactory waterbottle
.
Every year I seem to get less and less which makes what I do receive mean even more and more. I’m so happy that my family has broke away from mindless spending and over-gifting on the holidays. We get each other the things we need, or, more often: we treat each other to things we normally wouldn’t buy for ourselves. Like the Knit Picks set. I can’t afford to buy the whole set in one go so I bought one pair in the beginning of December and planned on buying the rest individually over time. It was frustrating to realize that doing so (with shipping figured in) would cost a pretty penny more, so I was very excited to unwrap the whole set Christmas morning. I feel more ready for all kinds of exciting projects. (PS: They are very nice needles! Thanks to Allison for originally suggesting them way back when.)
Overall, I felt very spoiled this year.
I’ll be back tomorrow with the gifts I gave/made.
In the meantime, what did YOU get this year?

Lovely surprises! Love Letter chocolate is some of my favorite sweeties. I used to buy it quite regularly at our local health food store in Alabama and eat it in the bath while reading Rilke. And several of my friends in my knitting circle have gotten that KnitPicks set! It’s highly recommended. :)
My husband and I do a low key Christmas as well. I received a book of essays by Sloan Crosley, two (!) corgi mugs, and a copy of the original Sabrina with Audrey Hepburn and the remake with Julia Ormond. He knows me well.

Wonderful. We also do the give what the other person needs but won’t get/make for themselves thang. I got some yarn, insulated underwear, tights, a sizeable mug for oatmeal, and the big item: a new quilt for my bed (as my old one has been ripped and repaired many times and had to be retired).
Less really is more, right?

As you get older you realize there really isn’t much that you need or really want. Since hubby and I do not have kids, on Christmas our gift to each other is a good dinner and a movie. I love your gifts, especially the chocolate, yum!

Glad to see you back more!
Love that chocolate…I think I need to go peek through the cupboards now!
Less is definitely nice, my extended family tends to go overboard. But my husband and I made almost everything for my daughters. From hubby I recieved two new sewing books I had been wanting and some new running clothes! Then I went and bought myself a whole bunch of new fabric, for my stash of course!

The wrappers on the chocolate look really cool! I love that needle set! I could never comfortably buy something that expensive myself, but I do hear that Knit Picks needles are great, I just order a pair for myself and can’t wait to try them out!

What awesome gifts! My husband got me Dior “J’adore” perfume and hand lotion (my favorite scent) and a gift card to The Limited since he knows I don’t like spending money on myself. I’ve already bought one skirt on clearance with it; at that rate it should last a while :) “Santa” found us in Georgia with my aunt & uncle this year and gave me the comfiest lounge pants along with a matching top and Ghirardelli peppermint bark squares (mmm!). My grandfather tucked a pretty charm necklace in my stocking among a couple ornaments & chocolate.

I’m so excited that you received a needle set! I felt like my knitting really increased when I got a needle set; I no longer had to put off knitting patterns because I lacked the tools. I had the needles and was ready to go! I hope you’ll feel the same sense of creative freedom.
My favorite gifts I received this year: a handcarved wooden spoon (designed for left-handed stirring, bonus!), a renewal subscription to Taproot, a gift certificate to Quince and Co, a ceramic mug made by my pottery teacher, and a replacement copy of “We Took to the Woods” (I gave my original to a friend).
