A Year of Music

I’ve noticed a lot of people joyfully saying good riddance to 2012, stating it was a horrible year for them. I myself have mixed feelings about 2012. Well, all I do know is that it was a pretty great year for music. Here are my top music releases of 2012. First is a Grooveshark playlist of the top songs from my favorite albums. (Minus Brandi Carlile’s “Raise Hell” which for some technical reason I couldn’t add to the playlist.)
Below that is the list of albums and links to purchase. (Many of them are currently only $5!)
Top Albums of 2012 by liesl on Grooveshark
The Avett Brothers – The Carpenter
Brandi Carlile – Bear Creek
Ellie Goulding – Halcyon (Deluxe Version)
Fiona Apple – The Idler Wheel Is Wiser…
First Aid Kit – The Lion’s Roar
Glen Hansard – Rhythm And Repose
Jack White – Blunderbuss
Kathleen Edwards – Voyageur
Lana Del Rey – Born To Die
Lindsay Fuller – You, Anniversary
The Lumineers – The Lumineers
Metric – Synthetica
Mumford and Sons – Babel (Deluxe Edition)
Of Monsters and Men – My Head Is An Animal
Sarah Jaffe – The Body Wins
Sharon van Etten – Tramp
Trampled by Turtles – Stars And Satellites

The Hunger Games: Songs From District 12 And Beyond was a great compilation album. (The songs by Birdy and The Secret Sisters were the standouts in my opinion.)

I did just buy The Mynabirds’ new 2012 album Generals last night and it’s already becoming a favorite. Be sure to check out “Body of Work” or the title track “Generals”.

What music did you find and love this year?

  1. Hi Liesl! Happy New Year! I like the Avett Brothers….particularly like the videos of them with Randy Travis. What can I say, I’m an old coot! LOL
Hope this new year is full of happiness, hope and healing for everyone. Hugs!

  2. I just took the time to revisit 2012 while writing a post of it and while I’m not entirely sad to see the end of it, it was also a fantastic year for me. Great music assortment, Metric is one of my favourite bands.
