I’ve been thinking a lot about ‘personal style,’ about what exactly mine is. Admittedly, I’m a little envious of women (and men) who have their personal style defined and are at the stage of just perfecting it. Me? I’m all over the board in my style and taste. (Same with music and books too.)
I used to feel like I needed to nail down my style, to get it set in one direction. I even went through a phase when I purged my entire wardrobe of all but five colors. (Think these guys with a little gray and a little yellow.) I figured it would help make shopping decisions for me—Oh, it’s pink? Guess I can’t buy it. And I hoped it would become a signature look. And it worked because people started to gift me things that were red, white and black. It was all oh so mod of me. Now I kind of shy away from mod and gravitate towards soft, feminine things; earthy things; classy things. But lately, I’m realizing it’s OK to be… eclectic. It’s OK to experiment. Sure, there are folks who know what they like and stick with it but I’m not one of them.
This one I’m sharing today (from over a month ago) is a more bold, girly, mod look, harkening back to my old attempt at a determined-style. Sometimes, even though the weather and situation call for a dress like this, I can’t bring myself to wear it because it’s too loud. Other days it’s a wonderfully refreshing look.
How about you? Do you have a style and stick with it? Ever get tempted or inspired by something that is so not what you’d imagine yourself being drawn to? Ever make a uncharacteristic purchase on a whim that turned out to be a wardrobe staple?
