Dresden Plate Quilt Block Tutorial

I guess the third time really is the charm, for the next quilt block for the tutorial series is up! This time it’s for a Dresden Plate block. It’s not technically “mini” but I think it’s small enough and uses up 16 scraps.
It has me thinking though–we might need more block similar to it in the quilt or else it’ll look out of place, don’t you think? Any suggestions? I’m thinking a Mariner’s Compass or some kind of Starburst block.
Here is how the quilt is looking so far:

  1. look at all those itty bitty pieces!!

  2. I just got caught up last night! I finished my log cabin….Deep breath….I’m hoping I can do the Dresden!

  3. It’s so beautiful! Are you going to do a cathedral window block? Those have a lot of white and would probably match the dresden really well.

  4. Hmm…I really love the tiny scrappy look you have going on and each block is such an accomplishment. Have you considered putting the dresden on the back in a see of white and keeping the front super tiny piecing only? I think the dresden would really show off back there and you wouldn’t have to shift the look of the front.

  5. Oh wow, this quilt is shaping up to be amazing! I do agree with you tho, you may need to include a few more circular blocks or blocks with more white patches. I’m not a quilter though, so I can’t suggest any!!!!
